About us

The Owners

We, Geoff and Denise, are originally from Surrey but have always dreamed of opening a small, boutique Bed and Breakfast in the West Country.  After a long and thorough search Hill View was found and the business developed; more of which to follow.

We offer you a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, with a high standard of comfort, service and hospitality. A restful break in idyllic surroundings, central position for touring and exploring, with easy access to ‘Somerset by the sea’.

History

In 2003 when we made the decision to relocate to the West Country there was, on a tick list of features we were looking for in our ideal home – the potential for creating a countryside B and B. We had stayed in many B and Bs around the country and had formed an idea of the best kind of establishment.

En suite was vital, as few people want to share bathroom facilities when away from home. Space around the house, for parking and a garden to enjoy and make available to guests was another aspect for consideration. A property that would allow for renovation to what we had in mind was important. It took several months and inspection of over 60 properties to find Hill View and we recognized immediately that a small B and B could and would emerge from Hill View. The idea was to begin slowly and create an establishment that we could run together after retirement. Our different skill sets dovetail perfectly to create the team behind the business.

We have found that the requirements of running a small B and B fit well with the lifestyle we now enjoy in Somerset. The house has evolved through the years and the rooms with their en suites have been created and updated to a high specification. Most of all, we have enjoyed welcoming so many different people to share our home. Recognising the qualities we have enjoyed staying in B and B’s ourselves, we know that a warm welcome, attention to detail and the provision of what guests want, need and request is all important.

Most of all, we enjoy providing a peaceful and relaxing environment for our guests, with as many of the elements of the best kind of break provided.

Location & surrounding areas

Hill View is tucked away on the outskirts of the historic village of Westonzoyland, just half a mile from the site of the Battle of Sedgemoor, the last battle fought on English soil in 1685. It is centrally located in the famous Somerset levels with easy access to the moorlands, caves, gorges and coastline of this lovely part of England.

Despite the peaceful location of Hill View, the house is 12 minutes from junction 23 of the M5 and 20 minutes’ drive from a major road taking you to a number of key locations, the A303. The area abounds with scenic, historical and rural interest with the beautiful Somerset coastline nearby. Sedgemoor is a mecca for anglers with walkers and cyclists also well catered for with miles of largely level routes. Stunning coastal scenery and the Hills of the Quantocks, Mendips and Polden are all within easy reach providing for all levels of walkers.

Awards

We were for many years members of Visit England and had a yearly inspection and assessment from a visiting inspector who stayed overnight incognito. Our latest Awards are shown here. We are proud to have achieved them and always strive to improve on our quality and standards of service.

Feedback to help us develop further is always welcome and a review in Tripadvisor very much appreciated.

We look forward to welcoming you to our home.
